 The meaning of Sholat 

In Order: ( Start to Finish ) 

 

Start Wudhu / Bismillah: In the name of Allah the most merciful and gracious 

 

 

At the End of Wudhu: 

Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah, wa ashhadu anna muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluhu || Allahmummaj’ alnee minat-tawwaaabeena waj’ alnee minal-mutatau hireen 

I believe that there is no other god except for Allah, and I also believe that Muhammed is his servant and messenger ||Allah, forgive me for my sin, and make me purified like the others 

 

 

Allahuakhbar: Allah the Greatest 

 

 

Doa Ifitah:  

1. Allaahu Akbar Kabiraa 

Allah is the very Greatest 

2. Walhamdulillāhi Kathīrā 

All praises be upon Him and many thanks to Allah 

3. Wa Subhānallāhi Bukratan Wa aṣīlā 

Allah The Important of both day and night 

4. Wajjahtu Wajhi lil-lazi Fataras-Samawāti wal-Ardh 

I face before The One Who created the skies and the lands 

5. Hanīfan-Musliman Wamā ana minal-musyrikīn 

I submit myself to Allah, and I am not among those besides Allah 

6. Inna ṣalātī, wanusukī wamahyayā, wamamātī Lillāhi rabbil-'ālamī 

Yes, my Solat, my good deeds, my life and my death are all for Allah the God of all the worlds 

7. Lā Syarīka lahu Wa Bidzālika Umirtu Wa Anā Minal Muslimīn 

He has no partner, no one like him, and I am a Muslim. 

 

 

Al-Fatihah: 

1. Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim 

In the name of Allah, the most merciful, and gracious 

2. Alhamdu lilahi Rabbil alamin 

All praises are to Allah the god of all worlds 

3. Ar Rahmanir Rahim 

Most merciful and gracious 

4. Maliki yaumid din 

Master of Day of Judgement 

5. Iyyaka na’budu wa iyyaka nasta’ in 

We Worship, and we seek for help 

6. Ihdinas siratal mustaqim 

Show us the straight path 

7. Siratal lazina an’ amta ‘alaihim gayril magdubi ‘alayhim wa laddallin 

Show us the path of the blessed. Not the displeased or lost path. 

 

 

Al-Ikhlas: 

1. Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim 

In the name of Allah, the most merciful, and gracious 

2. Qul huwallahu ahad 

Say Allah is the one and only 

3. Allahus samad 

Allah the Eternal 

4. Lam yalid wa lam yulad 

He is not produced or born 

5. Wa lam yakul lahu kufuwan ahad 

And there is nothing comparable to him 

 

 

Allahuakhbar: Allah the Greatest 

 

 

Rukoo: Glory to my lord the Important and praise him             ( 3x times ) 

 

 

Upon rising from Rukoo: 

Sami’ Allaahu liman hamidah | Rabbanaa wa lakal hamd 

Allah hears who praise him | My lord praise for you 

 

  

Allahuakhbar: Allah the Greatest 

 

 

Sujud: 

Subhaana Rabbiyal Al’aa                 | wa bihamdih 

Glory to Allah |  The most high | praise to him(3xtimes) 

 

 

Allahuakhbar: Allah the Greatest 

 

 

Sitting between the two sujud: 

Surah: Allaahum-maghfir lee | Warhamnee 

Meaning: O Allah forgive me | Have mercy on me 

Surah: Wajburnee  |  Warfa’nee | Warzuqnee 

Meaning: Support me | Elevate me | Provide for me 

Surah: Wahdinee | Wa ‘aafinee 

Meaning: Guide me | Protect me/keep me healthy 

Surah: Wa 'fuwanee 

Meaning: Have mercy on me 

 

 

Allahuakhbar: Allah the Greatest 

 

Sujud: 

Subhaana Rabbiyal |  Al’aa                 | wa bihamdih 

Glory to Allah |  The most high | praise to him(3xtimes) 

 

 

Allahuakhbar: Allah the Greatest 

 

 

Tashahud 

"Blessed respect, prayers, and good deeds to Allah." - This sentence is a greeting to Allah and an acknowledgement of His blessings upon us. 

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ 

 

"Peace be upon you, Prophet, and Allah mercy and blessings." - This sentence is a greeting and a prayer for mercy and blessings upon Prophet Muhammad. 

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ 

"Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah." - This sentence is a prayer for peace upon all of us and all righteous/ servants of Allah. 

"أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ" 

"I bear witness that there is no deity but God, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger." - This sentence is a declaration of faith in the oneness of God and the prophethood of Muhammad. 

 

"O Allah, let Your mercy be with Muhammad and his family and companions like you did with Ibrahim and his family and companions." - This sentence is a prayer for Allah's mercy upon Prophet Muhammad and his family, and a comparison to the mercy bestowed upon Prophet Ibrahim and his family. 

 

"O Allah, bless Muhammad and his Family and companions like You blessed Ibrahim and his Family and companions." - This sentence is a prayer for Allah's blessings upon Prophet Muhammad and his family, and a comparison to the blessings bestowed upon Prophet Ibrahim and his family. 

 

"Yes, you are Praiseworthy and Glorious." - This sentence is a conclusion to the Tashahhud, affirming Allah's greatness and praise. 

 

Ending: Peace be upon you ( x2 times ) 

 

 

MEANING OF OTHER SURAH 

 

Al-Asr 

1. Wal ‘asr | وَٱلْعَصْرِ 

Meaning: By The Time 

2. Innal insaana lafee khusr | إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَفِى خُسْرٍ 

Meaning: Surely Humanity is in loss 

3. Illal lazeena aamanoo wa ‘amilus saalihaati wa tawaasaw bilhaqqi wa tawaasaw bissabr | إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ 

Meaning: Except those who have faith, do good, and urge each other to the truth, and urge each other to be (Perseverance / Patience). 

2nd Meaning: Expect those who have faith and do the righteous deed and in the mutual teaching of the truth, with patience and constancy. 

 

 

Al-Kausar 

إِنَّآ أَعْطَيْنَـٰكَ ٱلْكَوْثَرَ ١ 

Meaning: Indeed, we have granted you “O prophet” much goodness. 

فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنْحَرْ ٢ 

Meaning: So, pray and sacrifice to your lord “alone”. 

إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلْأَبْتَرُ ٣ 

Meaning: Only the one who hates you is truly cut off from any goodness. 

 

 

Al-Adiyat 

وَٱلْعَـٰدِيَـٰتِ ضَبْحًۭا )١( فَٱلْمُورِيَـٰتِ قَدْحًۭا )٢( فَٱلْمُغِيرَٰتِ صُبْحًۭا ٣ فَأَثَرْنَ بِهِۦ نَقْعًۭا )٤ فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِۦ جَمْعًا )٥( إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لِرَبِّهِۦ لَكَنُودٌۭ )٦( وَإِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ لَشَهِيدٌۭ )٧( وَإِنَّهُۥ لِحُبِّ ٱلْخَيْرِ لَشَدِيدٌ )٨( ۞ أَفَلَا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِى ٱلْقُبُورِ )٩( وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِى ٱلصُّدُورِ )١(٠ إِنَّ رَبَّهُم بِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّخَبِيرٌۢ )١١ 

 

Meaning: (1) By the galloping, panting horses, (2) striking sparks of fire ˹with their hoofs˺, (3) launching raids at dawn, (4) stirring up ˹clouds of˺ dust, (5) and penetrating into the heart of enemy lines! (6) Surely humankind is ungrateful to their Lord, (7) and they certainly attest to this, (8) and they are truly extreme in their love of ˹worldly˺ gains. (9) Do they not know that when the contents of the graves will be spilled out, (10) and the secrets of the hearts will be laid bare, (11) surely their Lord is All-Aware of them on that Day. 

 

 
An-Nasr 

1. Iza jaaa’a nasrul-laahi walfath | إِذَاجَآءَنَصۡرُٱللَّهِوَٱلۡفَتۡحُ 

Meaning: When Allah’s help comes and the victory over Mecca is achieved 

(another meaning: When Allah’s ˹ultimate˺ help comes and the victory ˹over Mecca is achieved˺) 

2. Wa ra-aitan naasa yadkhuloona fee deenil laahi afwajaa | إِذَاجَآءَنَصۡرُٱللَّهِوَٱلۡفَتۡحُ 

Meaning: and you see the people embracing Allah’s Way in crowds, 

(another meaning: and you ˹O Prophet˺ see the people embracing Allah’s Way in crowds) 

3. Fasabbih bihamdi rabbika wastaghfirh, innahoo kaana tawwaaba | فَسَبِّحۡبِحَمۡدِرَبِّكَوَٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡهُۚإِنَّهُۥكَانَتَوَّابَۢا 

Meaning: Then glorify the praises of your Lord and seek His forgiveness, for certainly He is ever Accepting of Repentance. 

 

 

Al-Quraish 

1. Li-eelaafi Quraish | لِإِيلَٰفِقُرَيۡشٍ 

Meaning: For the Agreements by the Quraish 

2. Eelaafihim rihlatash shitaaa’i wassaif | إِۦلَٰفِهِمۡرِحۡلَةَٱلشِّتَآءِوَٱلصَّيۡفِ 

Meaning: Their Agreements / Trading journeys by winter and summer 

3. Faly’abudoo rabba haazal-bait | فَلۡيَعۡبُدُواْرَبَّهَٰذَاٱلۡبَيۡتِ 

Meaning: Let them praise the lord / god of this world 

4. Allazeee at’amahum min joo’inw-wa-aamanahum min khawf | 

ٱلَّذِيٓأَطۡعَمَهُممِّنجُوعٖوَءَامَنَهُممِّنۡخَوۡفِۭ 

Meaning: Who provides them with food against hunger, and protects them against danger 

 

 

An-Nas 

1. Qul a’oozu birabbin naas | قُلۡأَعُوذُبِرَبِّٱلنَّاسِ 

Meaning: Say, “I seek safety in the Lord of mankind 

2. Malikin naas | مَلِكِٱلنَّاسِ 

Meaning: The Master of Mankind 

3. Ilaahin naas | إِلَٰهِٱلنَّاسِ 

Meaning: The God of Mankind 

4. Min sharril waswaasil khannaas | مِنشَرِّٱلۡوَسۡوَاسِٱلۡخَنَّاسِ 

Meaning: From the evil of the lurking whisperer— 

5. Allazee yuwaswisu fee sudoorin naas | ٱلَّذِييُوَسۡوِسُفِيصُدُورِٱلنَّاسِ 

Meaning: Who whispers into the hearts of humankind— 

6. Minal jinnati wannaas | مِنَٱلۡجِنَّةِوَٱلنَّاسِ 

Meaning: From among the jinn and mankind.” 

 

Al-Falaq 

1. Qul a’oozu bi rabbil-falaq | قُلۡ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلۡفَلَقِ  

Meaning: Say "I seek safety in the Lord of daybreak 

2. Min sharri maa khalaq | مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ  

Meaning: From the evil of that he created 

3. Wa min sharri ghaasiqin izaa waqab | وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ  

Meaning: And from the evil of the night when it grows dark 

4. Wa min sharrin-naffaa-saati fil ‘uqad | وَمِن شَرِّ ٱلنَّفَّـٰثَٰتِ فِي ٱلۡعُقَدِ 

Meaning: And from the evil/witch of the blowers in knots 

5. Wa min sharri haasidin izaa hasad |  وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ  

Meaning: and from the evil of an envier when he envies. 

  

 

Homework in AQS Masjid 

اللّهُمّ علّمني ما ينفعني وانفعني بما علّمتني 

 

“Allahumma allimni ma yanfa'uni, wanfa'ni bima allamtani” 

"O Allah, teach me what benefits me, and benefit me from what You have taught me." 

 

 

 

Al-Kursi 

 

ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ ٱلْقَيُّومُ ۚ 

Allahu laaa ilaaha illaa huwal haiyul qai-yoom  

Allah: there is no god but him, the ever living, the ever watchful. 

(Allah, there is no true god but He, the Eternal, the Ever Sustainer.) 

 

لَا تَأْخُذُهُۥ سِنَةٌۭ وَلَا نَوْمٌۭ  

laa taakhuzuhoo sinatunw wa laa nawm 

Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. 

(Drownsiness and sleep do not touch him.) 

 

لَّهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ  

lahoo maa fissamaawaati wa maa fil ard 

All that is in the heavens and in the earth belongs to Him. 

(Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him.) 

 

مَن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يَشْفَعُ عِندَهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِۦ  

man zallazee yashfa’u indahooo illaa be iznih 

Who is there that can intercede with Him except by His leave? 

(Who is the person who intercede with Him without His permission?) 

 

يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ  

ya’lamu maa baina aideehim wa maa khalfahum 

He knows what is before them and what is behind them, 

(He knows all the public and private situations of people.) 

 

وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَىْءٍۢ مِّنْ عِلْمِهِۦٓ إِلَّا بِمَا شَآءَ  

wa laa yuheetoona beshai ‘immin ‘ilmihee illa be maa shaaaa 

But they do not comprehend any of his knowledge except what he wills. 

(Man, on the other hand, is not capable of mastering anything of his knowledge except as much as he wills) 

 

وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ  

wasi’a kursiyyuhus samaa waati wal arda  

His throne extends over the heavens and the earth; 

(His throne surrounds the heavens and the earth) 

 

وَلَا يَـُٔودُهُۥ حِفْظُهُمَا  

wa la ya’ooduho hifzuhumaa 

it does not weary Him to preserve them both. 

(and the maintenance of both does not tire him,) 

 

وَهُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْعَظِيمُ 

wa huwal aliyyul ‘azeem 

He is the Most high, the tremendous. 

(He is exalted, great,)
